Tableware That Doesn’t Fill Up Landfills

The world we live in is a wasteful one. An incredible amount of landfill that is not able to be processed is produced every day in Europe and America, with over 30million pieces of tableware being disposed of every 24hours. We obviously need our tableware and no one is suggesting that we look into alternative ways of eating or socialising, but surely there is a more ‘green’ alternative? Well, the problem may have already been solved by a new company in Richmond.

They have developed a complete range of biodegradable and compostable tableware that can be used in exactly the same way as ordinary products. They are completely safe and can also be cleaned properly. However, when you come to throw them away, they can be placed in composters or buried and will break down naturally over time.

The company has been given a thumbs up from eco organisations and by local government, picking up a few important awards for their efforts. A non-profit group called New Visions where the latest awarders, giving the company both financial and moral support, something the group was set up to do.

$2500 was included in the award and the company say it has been earmarked for new product developments. plates, bowls and serving spoons are some of the 15 pieces currency in the range. They are looking into making more utensils such a bottle opener and more detailed pieces like designer cheese knives

Jocelyn Tice who is responsible for building the company from start has suggested that she would like nothing more than to see her innovative tableware in shops all over the globe. “just think of the decrease it waste” she says. Waste production will be reduced dramatically, which will have the knock on effect of bringing down everyone’s costs.

As well and expanding her ranges, Jocelyn is also considering entering new markets with her concept, including furniture, packaging and even electrical appliances.  She has also been approached by a number of larger companies who are interested in incorporating her products into their own table and glassware
