Pick Out Your Charcoal Grill
Once you have picked out the perfect grill it’s time to fire it up. Charcoal grilling is an art that many master, but few perfect. Not really, I’m just messing with you. Grilling is fun, you just can’t walk away from the grill. So, let’s get it fired up, and grill something tasty!
How To Prepare The Fire Box
Grilling with charcoal over a gas grill does take a little more prep work, with a few extra steps. Many manufacturers recommend you line your firebox with a layer of heavy duty foil and about an an inch of pea gravel. It is wise if you fall this tactic to change out the foil, and watch out the grill depending on how often you are grilling.
How To Layer The Charcoal
The most important and basic part of grilling is preparing the fire. Spreading the briquettes is not difficult, but you do not want to crowd the grill. Trying to estimate the number of charcoal briquettes you will need is a simple task, if you spread them out in a single layer, and extend them just a little beyond the size of the food you will be cooking. If the weather is windy, or extremly humid you may need to cook your food longer, and more charoal may be needed in this case.
How To start The Grill
I recommend using a chimney starter, but if you don’t have one then pile the charcoal briquettes into a pyramid in the center of the firebox. Lightly drizzle ligher fluid over the charcoal, wait a minute, and light it up with a match. Never use gasoline, or kerosene on your charcoal.
